These tracks will be your campers concentration for the week. We highly encourage our campers to stay over multiple weeks. They can choose to stick with their concentration all weeks enrolled or choose new tracks each week. The majority of our kids stay with us for at least 2 weeks. Each day the campers also have 2 elective blocks where they choose from fun activities such as: swimming, film making, hiking, arts and crafts, and more.
Music LESSONS
Campers choose one instrument to focus on for the week out of vocals, drums, guitar, bass, keys, or DJ. All instruction takes place in small group lessons and is led by experienced and enthusiastic female musicians. Private lessons are available for the girls to sign up for every evening.
BAND PRACTICE
The bands have band practice every day. During band practice, band members work together to write a song and practice playing as an ensemble. Band coaches help bands with the writing process, facilitate the rehearsals, and answer questions as necessary. Band counselors help guide campers and smooth out any bumps along the way.
WORKSHOPS
Throughout the week, workshops are held on a variety of interesting, helpful, and awesome topics! Some workshops include: Ropes Course, Music History, Zine and Comic-Making, Screen Printing, DJ-ing, Performance Anxiety, Beatboxing, DIY Recording, Button-Making, Video-Making, Songwriting, Self-Defense, Alternative Instruments, and more.
Meals
Food, glorious food! All meals are delicious and included. Breakfast is typically served between 7:00–8:00 am; lunch is around 12:00 pm; and dinner is usually around 6:00 pm. This is subject to change, so please keep your ears perked throughout the day for announcements to make sure you don’t miss a meal. We offer both vegan and omnivore options and healthy snacks are available throughout the day.
LUNCHTIME PERFORMANCES
Every day a different band plays a live set for the girls and then sticks around to take questions. In our end of program survey this was a major highlight for the girls. They learned about different genres of music and had a fun time listening to the bands and getting to engage in meaningful discussions with the visiting artists.
FINAL SHOWCASE
At the end of the camp week, each band performs its original songs at the Final Showcase concert for friends, families, and fans. The showcase begins Saturday at 11:00 am sharp at the amphitheater. Make sure to arrive with plenty of time to park by the dorms so our staff can lead you down to the show. If you’re able, we would love if camper families joined us for an optional picnic lunch (bring your own lunches, please!) and final sendoff after the show.
THE FACILITY
Girls Rock SB is very lucky to be hosting Amplify Sleep Away Camp at such an exquisite facility. Set in the mountains of Ojai, California, Ojai Valley High School boasts one of the best views in Ventura County. The girls will have private, air-conditioned residence halls, a private pool, a movie theatre for evening films, and delicious meals provided ( vegan, vegetarian , lactose free, we offer it all) . Dormitories are supervised by dorm "parents." Campers will typically share a dorm room with one other girl. We utilize two different dormitories and separate the girls by age. 10-12 year old's in one dorm and 13-17 year old's in another.
CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Are you a high school senior looking to fulfill your community service hours? Every summer we choose a handful of high school students to intern with us. If this is something you are interested in please contact us.
We’re so excited to launch an intern program this year! This is a special opportunity for older, experienced teen musicians to get more involved behind the scenes at camp, develop leadership skills, and transition into becoming a GRSB volunteer or organizer in the future.
A limited number of intern positions are available to high school seniors. Interns will have the option of forming an “Intern Band,” rehearsing during the camp week, and performing at the showcase. They do not receive instrument instruction but they may be asked to assist instructors and workshop facilitators. They will be required to be part of our general support crew and roadie crew during camp week. Interns do not pay tuition.
