CAMP PROGRAM INFO: About Us
Camp Doublecreek was founded in 1971 by Uncle Carter and Aunt Trudy, who wanted to give children, ages 4-14, of the greater Austin area, a place where they could thrive in the summers.
We're proud to continue Uncle Carter and Aunt Trudy's dreams through encouraging, challenging, engaging, and inspiring our campers every single day. We accomplish these goals, by using a variety of summer camp activities lead by our supportive and caring staff. We know how important it is for campers of all ages, as well as our staff, to go home at the end of the day knowing that someone believes in them.
Our Philosophy
Where every camper goes home at the end of the day knowing that someone believes in them.
CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Our counselor in training program is the perfect way for ages 14-16 to learn what it takes to be a camp counselor. You'll get hands-on experience leading activities, working with children, and making lifelong friends. Plus, our experienced staff will be there to mentor and support you every step of the way. Sign up at Our Camp Website Link: www.campdoublecreek.com
YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: We offer a variety of activities that are individually crafted for each age group. From sports to arts and crafts, there's an activity here for every camper to enjoy. Swim lessons are provided for 3rd grade and younger to learn or improve their skills. Our rock wall, zipline, and low ropes course offer challenges for those looking to test their limits. And of course, we have plenty of dancing and arts and crafts for campers who want to express their creativity.

CAMP FACILITIES: When "The Heart" was first built, it was a resort hotel, so all our "tepees" have central air-conditioning. Campers under 12 live in the original hotel, 4-5 girls per room with a counselor, indoor plumbing. Older girls live in dormitory-style "tepees" with 10-12 girls and 2-3 counselors per room, indoor plumbing. All bunk beds are twin size.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Heart O' the Hills has been a summer camp for girls since 1953. Director Jane Ragsdale was a camper herself who always wanted to run a camp. She became program director when she was 21, and after 12 summers in that role, became director. 2015 was her 50th consecutive summer to be at camp in some capacity.
We offer two- and four-week sessions. All campers are asked to take Red Cross swim lessons, field sports and horseback riding. There is a list of some 50 electives that campers can choose from to round out their schedules, so there is something for everyone--from the most athletic to the most creative. The emphasis is on learning new skills in a fun environment.
New campers draw from a hat to determine tribe affiliation. The friendly competitive spirit of the tribes are infectious!
Campers leave their electronics at home and learn to live and relate to each other the old fashioned way.
Counselors arrive a minimum of one week before campers to take skills certification courses and learn all about how The Heart operates.
CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Heart LITes are too old to be campers but haven't had a year of college, so don't qualify to be counselors. They may apply to come as volunteers.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: In the Fall of 2003, Daryl Gelender and Jill Stolbach, both Dallas residents and former Greenhill private school teachers, dreamed of a place children could learn through an elaborate enrichment program taught by professionals in a summer camp environment. It was from this dream that Camp Kiowa brought its first campers to Texas Woman’s University in Denton during the summer of 2004.
In 2005, Brian and Jennifer Manhart purchased Camp Kiowa in an effort to maintain the high-quality enrichment program already in place, and to incorporate all the benefits of a traditional camp experience. After 2 years of continual growth on the university campus, Brian and Jennifer decided to offer an additional enrichment experience in a more traditional camp environment. The university experience many campers have known as Camp Kiowa evolved into Kiowa U. Many campers, in search of a more traditional style of overnight camp, but looking for the depth only found in an enrichment program, enjoyed the experience known as Adventure Kiowa.
In 2009, The Manhart family purchased the future home of Camp Kiowa(Lone Oak Ranch). They understood the value of joining both Kiowa U and Adventure Kiowa into one experience… Camp Kiowa at Lone Oak Ranch. This program offers the best of both worlds… traditional overnight camp, educational programs, relational activities, fun evening programs and genuine friendships! The Manharts also understood the benefit of living year-round on the property with other team leaders that could focus on quality programming in a very safe environment. The group has been extremely successful with “off-season” events and is now equipped to produce only the best summer camp experience with Camp Kiowa.

Each year of the program has a theme that is associated with the specific skills you will build:
Heart of a Champion: Find where your heart is and the type of person you are inclined to be, while acknowledging that society is likely to pull you in a different direction.
Spirit of a Champion: We help you develop and hone the skills you will need to follow your own path.
Legacy of a Champion: Literally go into the woods and write a mission statement for what that path is.

SUMMER CAMP JOBS:
Gilmont’s Summer Staff consists of students between the ages of 18 and 25. They are young adult role models that serve as the backbone for our summer. They care for the campers 24/7, facilitate recreation, participate in Bible study... and ... let's just say they do pretty much everything that needs to happen to make camp run and be fun.
For any questions please feel free to call us at (903)797-6400 or apply today at Our Camp Website Link: www.gilmont.org.
